The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in India, with the 2023 season scheduled in March.

The official start date for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is 31st March 2023, and it runs for approximately two months, with the IPL 2023 final taking place on 28th May 2023. The official IPL 2023 sponsor is Tata Group.

The IPL 2023 mega auction date was the 12th and 13th of February, respectively, and a total of 10 teams were auctioned. The IPL mini auction 2023 was held on 23rd December at Kochi.

IPL 2023 Format

The Indian Premier League will follow a double round-robin format, with each team playing 14 matches over 14 weeks; wins count as two points, while draws or losses don’t. Only the top four teams advance to playoffs. Each team will play twice at home and once away for maximum competitive intensity.

The 16th season of India’s premier T20 cricket league, IPL Match 2023, will feature ten teams competing in a round-robin format before moving on to playoffs and crowning one as champion. The eventual victor will receive the IPL Trophy and become champions.

There is no introduction to IPL 2023 new team, unlike in 2022, wherein two new teams were introduced, namely Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.

How many players can be retained in IPL 2023?

According to the official report on the IPL 2023 retention date, there is no limit to the number of players that can be retained by a team. This means that any team can retain any number of players they desire. Additionally, each team is allowed to spend an extra ₹5 crores, increasing their spending limit to ₹95 crores instead of the usual ₹90 crores.

There are a total of 163 retained IPL 2023 players. However, 85 players have been released this year. As per IPL 2023 Retention Rules, all franchises have unveiled their retained and released lists for submission by 23rd December. Teams are busy fine-tuning their squads ahead of this deadline.

The IPL 2023 winner team will get a prize money of INR 20 crores, followed by 13 crores for the runner-ups.
