Most Successful Captain in Test Cricket

Virat Kohli is the fourth-most successful Test captain of all time after taking on the role of skipper in 2014 and winning 40 matches as captain.

Captain Smith was only 22 when he was given the captaincy role for South Africa. Smith is the all-time leader in Test cricket wins as a captain. A total of 53 wins and 28 losses have been recorded in 109 matches. As a test captain, he played more than 100 matches. In the ICC he played 1 game and 108 for South Africa as captain. It is estimated that he won 48.62 per cent of his games.

We take a look at the best Test captains in cricket history.

Graeme Smith has 53 Test victories

Graeme Smith of South Africa ranks first on the list of the most successful captains in Test matches with 53 victories. As the most successful captain of the Proteas, he played 109 tests for his side. It was Smith who led South Africa to a famous series victory in Australia during 2008-09, defeating the Aussies at home for the first time in 16 years.

Ricky Ponting: 48 Test victories

The most successful Test captain of all time is Ricky Ponting of Australia. Among captains who have captained their teams in 25 or more Tests, the Australians have a win percentage of 62.33.

In 2006/07, he led Australia to a 5-0 victory over England in the Ashes, which was one of his greatest accomplishments as captain. I am sure you would agree. Perhaps the greatest cricket team in history was the Australian team led by Ricky Ponting. In the 1970s and 1980s, only the West Indies team stood a chance.

Steve Waugh: 41 Test victories

Between 1999 and 2004, Australia won 41 Tests under Steve Waugh’s leadership. A whopping 71.92 per cent of his 57 tests have ended in victories. Captain Waugh scored 3714 runs at a strike rate of 52.31.

Virat Kohli: 40 victories in tests

Is Virat Kohli king of the cricket

On this list, only Virat Kohli is still playing. Kohli was a born leader and one of the greatest cricketers of all time. When MS Dhoni left the team in 2014, he took over the leadership. It was said to be tough to take over from MS Dhoni who was India’s most successful Test captain.

The transition from MS to Kohli went smoothly due to Virat’s management of the team. On the list of the most successful Test captains, Indian captain Virat Kohli takes the fourth position. India’s most successful Test captain has won 40 Tests since he took over as skipper in 2014. The first World Test Championship (WTC) was also won by India under his leadership.

Clive Lloyd: 36 Test victories

One of the greatest chapters in test cricket history is the dominance of the West Indies team. Among all cricket teams, Clive Lloyd’s West Indies is considered the most hostile. Clive Lloyd, his brother Vivian Richards and other giants like Vivian Richards and Vivian Richards helped them defeat everyone with big smiles.

Clive Lloyd was the captain of the team from 1974 to 1985. In the 1970s and 1980s, he was an integral part of the Caribbean team’s success. Lloyd won 36 of the 74 matches he captains. Between 1982 and 1984, West Indies were unbeaten in 27 of their matches while he was captain.
